Stanford Quantum Computing Association hosted its first Journal Club discussion on 2/7/2020. 20 students discussed John Preskill’s “Quantum computing in the NISQ era and beyond” over lunch. Everyone had something to say and contributed to the discussion.
Lunch with Prof. Kathryn Moler
Members of the Stanford Quantum Computing Club had lunch with Prof. Kathryn Moler, Vice Provost and Dean of Research and Professor of Applied Physics & Physics. Students were able to ask questions about Prof. Moler’s research in mesoscopic magnetic imaging of quantum materials and devices, as well as general topics such as the development of quantum technologies and her perspective as an administrator. Everyone had a great time!
Introduction to Quantum Computing Talk
Jessica Pointing gave a talk on quantum computing: introducing its potential applications, a taste of how it works and how much progress has been made in the field. Participants enjoyed pizza and doughnuts after the talk!

Members of the Stanford Quantum Computing Club had lunch with Prof. Vedika Khemani of the Physics department. Students were able to ask questions about Vedika’s research in dynamic many body systems, as well as general topics such as career progression. Everyone had a great time!

Quantum Programming Workshop by Rigetti
The Stanford Quantum Computing Association and Stanford's System X hosted a Quantum Programming Workshop led by Rigetti Computing, one of the largest quantum computing startups. More than 100 people attended the workshop, which took place at Denning House on Stanford’s campus.
